June 11: Day 4: Did they lose the creek?

The hardest thing about this trail is not the trail. It’s not the miles. Not the incline. Not the long days. It’s the mental challenge. Today marks day 3 of difficult days so far on this trip.

We decided to move on instead of take the day off because our camping spot wasn’t in the greatest of places and we thought it made sense to get at least a few more miles under our belts. We trudged on to the end of segment 3 where we had a pleasant surprise! Our trail angel, Lissa, brought us fresh fruit, cheese, and some odds and ends to make the trip more bearable. We appreciated the visit and the chance to rest.

Onwards we trundled into segment 4 where we went into the Lost Creek Wilderness. This place is absolutely gorgeous and I’m definitely going to come back to send more time in this forest. It’s so wonderful and quiet, although I could do without the bugs at our campsite. It took us a while to get here, in part because we had difficulty finding the water sources again. We were also moving slower in general and stopped to chat with other hikers along the way.

Once we set up camp we made a plan for the next 3 days. We’re going to take 2 short days to complete the rest of segment 4 and meet Mom for a resupply Friday morning before moving into segment 5. It’s possible we’ll bail instead of taking the resupply (Dad’s knee is really bothering him and I’m still having some weird pelvic pain) but we won’t know for sure until we get there.
